Ronald M. Brochu

AUBURN — Ronald M. Brochu, 81, of Lewiston, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Jan. 31, at the Hospice House.

Ronald M. Brochu

He was born in Lewiston, Jan. 15, 1931, the son of Onesime and Beatrice Boucher Brochu. Educated in local schools and a graduate of Lewiston High School, he served in U.S. Navy.

On Sept. 12, 1951, he married the former Lorraine DeLorme. He worked for many years as a milkman, delivering for Cote’s Dairy and H.P. Hood, and after retiring worked part-time for Maine Awards.

An avid sportsman in his younger years, he loved softball, both as a player and an official, including being the umpire-in-chief and serving as the Andy Valley Softball District Commissioner. He also enjoyed volleyball, and was a member of Le Montagnard.

Called the “best pepere in the world” by his grandchildren, he had a gift for making everyone laugh and never lost his sense of humor, even while battling Alzheimer's in his final years.

A member of the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Prince of Peace Parish, he is survived by his loving wife of Lewiston; three daughters, Diane and husband, Robert Harrington, of Minot, Tina and husband, Paul Weaver, of Rochester, N.H., and Nanci Paladino of Lewiston; a brother, Paul and wife, Connie Brochu, of Lewiston; three sisters, Fern and husband, Robert Couture, of Lisbon, Joline Brissette of Lewiston and Jeannette and husband, Robert Lucio, of Wisconsin; six grandchildren, Melanie Harrington, Calvin, Eliot, and Nathan Weaver, and Casey and Tanner Paladino; a great-grandson, Nathan Weaver; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Diane Letourneau; and a brother-in-law, Raymond Brissette.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of the Hospice House for the compassionate care they gave him during his final days.
