Eva Sassi Taylor

RUMFORD — Eva Sassi Taylor, 102, the former holder of the Boston Post Cane for Dixfield, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Feb. 5, at the Rumford Community Home.

She was born in Rumford, Oct. 26, 1909, a daughter of Vincent and Linda (Bussolari) Sassi. She attended Rumford schools.

Eva was employed at the Rumford Community Hospital from 1952 until the time of her retirement in 1974.

Prior to her move to Dixfield, she lived in Rumford and attended the United Methodist Church there. She was a charter member of the Robert Shand VFW Post Ladies Auxiliary and was a life member of the Mt. Zircon Chapter 142 Order of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by her son, Francis Taylor and his wife, Geraldine, of Brunswick; daughter-in-law and longtime caregiver, Donna Taylor of Dixfield; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Harry A. Taylor, May 3, 1982; a son, Robert M. Taylor in 2007; three brothers; and three sisters.

Eva’s family wishes to extend a most sincere thank-you to all of the nurses and staff of the Rumford Community Home for their loving care of her during her time there.
