RUMFORD — Thomas E. McKechnie Sr., 63, of Strong, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the Rumford Community Home on Wednesday, April 4, after a three year battle with cancer.
He was born in Farmington, Feb. 21, 1949, the son of Arthur L. and Ruth M. (Brown) McKechnie. He attended Farmington schools. Thomas worked highway construction with his father for a long time and at a number of manufacturing jobs in the area.
Thomas enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, bird watching and spending time with friends and family.
Thomas is survived by his daughters, Misty McKechnie and her partner, Nick Ames and her sons, Eli and Zach Nystrom and Jamie McKechnie and her partner, Andrew and children, Dustin and Brian Welch; son, Thomas McKechnie Jr. and his wife and son, Christopher McKechnie, and daughter, Suzanne Stevenson and family; and brother, Robert McKechnie and his wife, Sharon, of Temple.
He was predeceased by his parents; his brother, James McKechnie; and grandson, Corey McKechnie.
