DURHAM — Barbara L. Merrill, 61, of Durham, died Monday, May 7, from PSP (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy), at her home with her loving family at her side.
She was born in Augusta, July 21, 1950, a daughter of Herbert and Elizabeth (Miller) Cornish. She was educated in local schools and graduated from Lisbon High School, Class of 1968.
Barbara married the love of her life, Lawrence “Archie” Merrill on Sept. 1, 1968, and together they started to raise their four children. Barbara worked for many years at Eastland shoe. She enjoyed shopping and being outdoors especially at the beach. She also enjoyed the company of her two dogs Smokey and Princess.
She leaves her husband of 43 years, Archie Merrill of Durham; her parents, Herbert and Elizabeth Cornish of Lisbon Falls; a daughter, Laurie Belanger and her husband, Roland, of Lisbon; three sons, Paul Merrill of Durham and his fiance, Elizabeth Parent, of Lisbon Falls, Jerry Merrill and significant other, Cari Keller, of Durham and Kevin Merrill and his wife, Christina, of Durham; a sister, Andrea Cornish of Lisbon Falls; a brother, Bill Cornish and wife, Sandra, of Deerfield Beach, Fla.; 11 grandchildren, Erica, Aaron, Megan, Kayla, Kristopher, Tanner, Robyn, Jacob, Ryan, Nicholas and Mia; a niece, Amber; a nephew, Beau; and many aunts uncles and cousins.
