AUBURN — Marjorie Sarah Brooks Cowan, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, of Hampden and Auburn, passed away on August 14. She
was 98 years old.
Marjorie was born in Erving, Mass., on April 28,1914, the daughter of Leo and Jennie Brooks. As a young woman, she attended Fitchburg State Teachers College and nursing school. In 1943 she married Robert Cushman Cowan, her husband for nearly 60 years. In 1975 she moved to Maine, where she enjoyed being a homemaker and spending time at the ocean. A devout Christian, Marge was a member of the Hampden Congregational Church, a Bible study leader, and a lifelong volunteer in church activities. She loved playing the piano, but her greatest joy was her family.
She is survived by two daughters, Marilyn Cowan of Quincy, Mass. and Judith Rizk of Lewiston. Surviving grandchildren include Robert Rizk (Sarah Rizk) of Seven Fields, Pa. and Karima Rizk (Robert O’Connell ) of Abu Dhabi, UAE. Surviving great-grandchildren include Ocean and Lily O’Connell and Elizabeth and Katherine Rizk. She is also survived by two sisters, Beatrice Parziale of Port St. Lucie, Fla. and Margaret Vaillencourt of Orange, Mass., as well as nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
