Basil A. Durrell

WILTON — Basil A. Durrell, 65, of Wilton, died Saturday, Dec. 29, at his home.

Basil A. Durrell

He was born March 16, 1947, in Avon, the son of Everett C. Durrell and Chestina (Williams) Durrell Beedy. Basil grew up with his three sisters and three brothers on the family farm in Freeman and graduated from Strong High School in June 1965.

He married Lynnette Bernard and they raised two beautiful daughters, Lori and Lorna. On July 25, 1992, he married Eleanor (Small) Dalrymple at Porter Lake in Strong. Eleanor and Basil built and made their home in Wilton.

Basil began his 40-year career in the home building business, in sales and consulting, which culminated with 20 years at Jordan Lumber Co. in Kingfield. He took a great deal of pride in servicing and building relationships with local contractors and home owners throughout Western Maine.

Basil’s interests included spending time with family and friends at “Camp B.A.D.” on Porter Lake, fishing, snowmobiling, NASCAR, horse races, recalling childhood escapades and “being right.” Family and friends were always a big part of his life.

Basil is survived by his wife, Eleanor; his daughters, Lori Witham and husband, Les, of Canaan and Lorna Niedner and husband, Kirk, of Livermore; a stepdaughter, Sue Veilleux and husband, Bob, of Carmel; a stepson, Harold "Chip" Dalrymple of Farmington; three brothers, Colon, Wayne and Michael Durrell; three sisters, Bonita Pond, Vicki McDonald and Rita Tripp; grandchildren, Paige, Brynn, Lexie, Luke, Shaina, Emily, Alex and Olivia; and many more family and friends.
