LEWISTON — Elsie M. Gervais, 97, passed away Jan. 1, in Lewiston.

She was born in Westborough, Mass., June 18, 1915, the daughter of Alfred A. and Annie De Armoud Gervais. Miss Gervais was a 1931 graduate of Edward Little High School and received a bachelor and master's degree from Bates College, and a master's degree from teachers college, Columbia University.
She taught many years at ELHS, where she was head of the foreign language department. She was organist for 24 years at High Street Congregational Church in Auburn.
She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, a member of her church since 1930, a member and former president of the Parish Guild of High Street Church, a member and former president and secretary of Auburn Art Club and a long-time member and former secretary of the Wednesday Morning Club. For several years, she had served as secretary of her high school class.
After her retirement from teaching, Miss Gervais traveled extensively. In later years, she spent several weeks of the winter season in Florida.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Florence W. Gervais in 1944.
