AUBURN — Roger L. Rancourt, 80, of Lewiston died Thursday, Jan. 3, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin with his family by side following a long courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Lewiston, Aug. 19, 1932, the son of the late Wilfred L. and Irene (Couture) Rancourt and had been a resident of this community all of his life.
He was educated in Lewiston schools and was a graduate of Lewiston High School, Class of 1951. He married the former Rita M. Bourgoin on June 5, 1954.
He owned and operated his family business, Roger’s Esso Station and Market. He then purchased Caron’s Ice House at No Name Pond. Following that, he worked for many years for many different companies as a welder through the Boilers Makers Union until his retirement in 1989.
Roger enjoyed hunting, fishing, lobster bakes at his camp at No Name Pond, traveling, dining out, loved maintaining his property and most of all enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus of Lewiston.
Roger is survived by his wife, Rita M. Rancourt of Lewiston; two sons, Ron Rancourt and his wife, Rita C., of Lewiston and Michael Rancourt and his wife, Doreen, of Lewiston; one daughter, Lisa Rancourt and her partner, Maggie McKenna, of Topsham; five grandchildren, Ryan Rancourt of Sabattus, Michelle Rancourt and Christopher Rancourt, both of Lewiston and Nicholas Rancourt and Isabelle McKenna, both of Topsham; and several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice, the Hospice House of Androscoggin and also to Dr. Richard Kappelmann for the wonderful care they have given to Roger.
