MANCHESTER — Joshua Allan Lavine, 31, of Wilton, passed away unexpectedly on Jan. 9.

Joshua Allan Lavine

He was born in Lewiston, Sept. 10, 1981, the son of Al and Carol Lavine. Often described as a gentle giant because of his 6’7” stature and his kind and thoughtful ways, he was a loving father, son, brother, uncle and friend.

Josh attended St. Dominic Regional High School and graduated from Leavitt Area High School in 2000. He played football, lacrosse and was well-known as an outstanding hockey goalie.

He graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Training Center in Cape May, N.J., in 2000, and was first stationed near Virginia Beach, Va. In 2002, he lived with his sister, Carly in Baltimore, Md., where he worked at PALL Corporation, a broad-based filtration, separation and purification company. He was an accomplished welder and most recently employed at Cianbro Corporation in Maine.

A few years after returning to Maine, he met his fiancée, Alison. In 2008, they celebrated the birth of their son, Madden. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, weight training and spending time with family.

He is survived by his fiancée, Alison Decastro and his four year old son, Madden, both of Wilton; his parents, Al and Carol Lavine of Lexington, Va.; maternal grandmother, Loraine Wright of Litchfield; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Eugene and Kristen McCabe (Bernier), of Lexington, Va., Ryan and Rachel Gaskill (Bernier) of Margate, N.J., and Jeremy and Carly Farkas (Bernier) of Baltimore, Md.; as well as six nieces; and two nephews.

He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, David Wright; and paternal grandparents, George and Doris Lavine.

All who knew him loved him dearly and he will live on in our hearts.
