Jeanne L. Whittemore

NORWAY — Jeanne L. Whittemore, a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, friend and Nana, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 10, at her residence at 98 Main St., lovingly cared for by her daughter-in-law, Berdina, and close friend, Ruth Sherman.

Jeanne L. Whittemore

She was born on May 12, 1935, daughter of the late Conrad and Celia (Smith) Lamb, West Paris. She graduated from West Paris High School in 1953. She worked at Stephens Memorial Hospital in central supply for three years, Sanborn Motor Express for 22 years and retired from Ed Thayer Trucking after 10 years.

She was a member of T.O.P.S. since 1988; she enjoyed line dancing with the Razzle Dazzle Line Dancers. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary 082, Norway. She loved singing and sang in the choir at the South Paris Universalist Church, of which she was a member.

She was a director of the Oxford County Fair and was secretary for two years. She volunteered for many years at the fairgrounds, mostly painting buildings, etc. She wanted to see the fair improve and to see a race track and she saw all this happen.

She was an avid Red Sox fan. She and Phillip enjoyed their motor home and traveled out west and to Nashville, Tenn. She and her sister camped at Fryeburg Fair for 26 years during their vacations.

Jeanne married Phillip Whittemore on June 19, 1955. They were blessed with two sons, Wayne and Blaine. Wayne’s wife, Berdina, was like their own daughter. The most precious person that entered her life was Christopher, her grandson. He was her only grandchild, she adored and spoiled him. He helped her so much taking care of Phillip.

Jeanne is survived by her sons, Wayne and Blaine; daughter-in-law, Berdina; grandson, Chris; brother, J. Hayward Lamb and his wife, Mary, of Charleston, S.C.; sister, Elaine Blossom of North Branford, Conn.; sisters-in-law, Joyce Lamb of West Paris, Cynthia Lamb of Locke Mills and Jennie Lamb of Philadelphia, Pa.; many nieces and nephews; close friend, Ruth Sherman; and best friend, Suzanne Grover.

She was predeceased by her husband, Phillip, who passed away Nov. 21; and her three brothers, Newton, Stanton and Sayward Lamb.
