Roberta Eloise Thurston

FARMINGTON — Roberta Eloise Thurston, 89, formerly of Jay, died early Friday morning at the Sandy River Center in Farmington.

She was born in Wilton, Oct. 28, 1923, a daughter of John and Mildred (Riggs) Swett and graduated from Jay High School in 1942. Roberta worked for many years at Diamond Match, Norwock Shoe, and later at G.H. Bass in Wilton until her retirement. She was an active member of the Bartlett Memorial United Methodist Church in North Jay and the Wilton United Methodist Church, as well as the Sisterhood of the Knights of Pythias.

She enjoyed dancing and singing and sang in the church choir for many years.

She is survived by her brothers and sisters, Glendon Swett of Wilton, Lauriston Swett of Edgewood Manor in Farmington, Nathalie Jordan of Wilton, and Durwood Swett of North Jay; granddaughters, Cindy Andrews of Sidney, Jennie Lavallee of Moscow, Lisa White of Windsor, and Melanie Miller of Somerville; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Linda Thurston Smith.
