New EMA director appointed in Oxford County

PARIS — The Oxford County Commission on Tuesday appointed Allyson Hill, who has served as interim director of the Oxford County Emergency Management Agency, to serve as the agency's director.

Hill, a seven-year employee of the county's EMA office, has served as the acting director since former director Scott Parker was placed on leave in May 2011. When Parker resigned in July, Hill became interim director.

On Tuesday, she officially took the reins. “There you go,” Commissioner Steven Merrill joked. “That only took six months.”

In May 2011, Parker was the subject of an investigation by the Oxford County Sheriff's Office on whether he broke privacy laws in the use of emergency phone number databases for a notification system that would inform residents of natural disasters or other emergencies.

District Attorney Norman Croteau concluded there was no intent to commit a crime and his office didn't press charges.

However, the commissioners and County Administrator Scott Cole considered disciplinary action. After several meetings with the commission, Parker resigned on July 19.

The Oxford County EMA works with the Maine Emergency Management Agency and local responders to coordinate emergency response plans for Oxford County residents.
