PARIS — A Dixfield man charged with stabbing his brother was released Friday on personal recognizance bail.
Jacob C. Hall, 20, of Averill Hill Road, was arrested Wednesday evening after his brother reported that Jacob, unprovoked, had stabbed him in the back with a knife.
Jacob was arrested on a charge of elevated aggravated assault, a Class A offense that carries a sentence of up to 30 years.
According to a police report by Dixfield Officer Eric Bernier, a man stopped at the Dixfield Police Station to report that he'd been stabbed. He said he wasn't badly hurt, and said he and Jacob weren't fighting when Jacob stabbed him.
Bernier found Hall and spoke to him about the stabbing. Hall admitted to stabbing his brother, and said he didn't know why he did it. He told Bernier he put the knife in the skimmer of his swimming pool.
After recovering the knife, Bernier arrested Hall on a charge of elevated aggravated assault. The brother was sent to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.
Hall was released Friday afternoon, and is due to appear in Oxford County Superior Court on Nov. 6.
