Some York County residents woke up to rumbling early Tuesday morning confirmed as a small earthquake, according to a geophysicist with the U.S. Geological Survey.
Carrieann Bedwell told the Bangor Daily News Tuesday that the earthquake measured at 2.3 on the Richter scale, and the epicenter was just under 4 miles south of Lake Arrowhead.
Bedwell said over 100 responses were reported to the U.S. Geological Survey’s website from York County residents in the Hollis, Buxton and Waterboro areas saying they felt rumbling and shaking.
“It looks like it had some light shaking,” Bedwell said, “[but] I wouldn’t call it a violent shaking.”
Bedwell said an earthquake measuring at 4.0 on the Richter scale occurred in Hollis in October.
