NORWAY— Due to current snow conditions and the weather forecast for the week ahead, the annual Oxford Hills Sprint races will shift its venue to Roberts Farm Preserve in Norway on Saturday, Feb. 2, beginning at 10 a.m.
The Sprint is normally held at Sunny Croft Farm on Paris Hill, but lack of snow this year necessitated the change of venue.
Registration will open on site at 9 a.m. and the races will start at 10 a.m.
The air-rifle biathlon that had been scheduled for Saturday at Roberts Preserve will be held Sunday, Feb. 3. It is co-sponsored by the University of Maine 4-H Camp & Learning Center at Bryant Pond, which is providing air rifles for the competition. Younger skiers will ski three 1k loops, shooting targets and required penalty laps between. Older skiers will ski three 2k loops.
Due to both races, the trails will be closed to the public from noon Friday, Feb. 1, to noon Sunday, Feb. 3. Instead, the public is encouraged to come and cheer on the Viking Nordic team in their Sprint races, and to participate in the biathlon. Skis, poles and boots are available for the Oxford Hills School District community.
