Oxford man scheduled for assault trial Monday

PARIS — An Oxford man accused of attacking a woman, then a police officer while resisting arrest, will be tried in Oxford County Superior Court on Monday.

Michael B. Murphy, 61, of Oxford, is charged with domestic violence assault, refusing to submit to arrest and two counts of assault for a May 27, 2012, incident.

According to a report by Oxford police Officer Zachary Bisson, Bisson went to Murphy's home last year for a domestic violence complaint. A woman at the home said Murphy had been violent, pushing her to the ground and putting her in a headlock.

Bisson wrote that he handcuffed Murphy, who got upset and refused to get into the police cruiser. Bisson fought Murphy to the ground and Murphy kicked at him, the account said. A second officer arrived and they put Murphy into the car.

Bisson, the woman and Deputy Chris Davis of the Oxford County Sheriff's Office are set to be witnesses at the trial.
