Brothers suspended in Dirigo classroom assault

DIXFIELD — Two brothers at Dirigo High School were suspended this week for an assault on two other students in a classroom early Monday afternoon, Superintendent Tom Ward said.

The brothers walked into a classroom in the East Campus area of the school, which is on Nash Street in the same building as the district’s central office, and began beating on two boys, he said.

The teacher immediately contacted the principal’s office and Assistant Principal Chris Moreau escorted the brothers to the main office.

It was not known if the two boys who were attacked were injured.

“The teacher did exactly what he was supposed to do,” Ward said.

The parents of all four students were notified and came to the school. The brothers were suspended for 10 days, he said.

Ward said an expulsion hearing will likely take place at the RSU 10 board meeting Feb. 13. The brothers enrolled at the school at the beginning of the school year.

“This was very unusual,” Ward said. “We’ve never had a situation like this.”

He said the parents of the boys who were attacked were encouraged to file assault charges against the brothers. Whether injuries occurred is not known at this time.

Sgt. Jeff Howe of the Dixfield Police Department said he knows that fighting incidents have taken place at the school recently, but he did not know the specifics of Monday’s case. He said Chief Richard Pickett handles incidents at the school. Pickett is out of the area until Monday, Feb. 6.

From reading this story, this

From reading this story, this is a case of assault. it is not a case of boys being boys. Assault charges should be pressed.
