MEXICO — A Sun Journal reporter was hit by a car Tuesday evening while crossing Main Street.
Rumford Bureau reporter Erin Cox, 33, of Peru was taken first to Rumford Hospital, and later to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, after being hit by a 1998 Subaru station wagon driven by Ashley Cioffa-Orr, 25, of Roxbury.
Mexico police Lt. Roy Hodsdon said the accident occurred at about 6:17 p.m. on Main Street, also known as Route 2, in front of the Mexico Town Office.
Hodsdon said the last thing Cox remembered was getting out of her car, which was parked on the westbound side of Main Street. According to police, she was crossing the street and was hit by the Subaru as it was headed east.
Cox rolled onto the hood and hit the windshield before landing on the ground, Hodsdon said. Her injuries were not considered to be life-threatening.
