RUMFORD — River Valley Homecoming, a Rumford based nonprofit corporation, will hold a debut River Valley Homecoming 2012 gathering in July.
It is open to anyone who is or was living in Rumford, Mexico, Dixfield, Roxbury, Andover, Bethel, Peru, etc., “and still has fond memories of the times, events and places where we grew up,” co-organizer Debbie DeRoche of Roxbury said recently.
The event will be held from 5 to 11:30 p.m. Saturday, July 28, at the Black Mountain of Maine ski area in Rumford. Gates open at 4:30 p.m.
“Homecoming 2012 will be an evening of music, food, dancing, reminiscing and socializing with friends old and new, classmates, relatives, neighbors and acquaintances,” DeRoche said.
The evening will feature a live band with guest appearances by several guest musicians from current and bygone eras, and other local artists and authors.
There will be several food vendors “to please all palates” and a cash bar provided by Black Mountain, she said.
Additionally, there will be some unique displays, contests, giveaways and commemoratives.
“So make plans to spend a memorable evening catching up with friends, classmates and relatives,” DeRoche said.
All net proceeds will be donated to area charitable organizations.
Tickets, which are available for $15 a person until June 1 and $20 thereafter, may be purchased by calling DeRoche at 364-8428 or Terry Umbro at 364-8523, or visiting the Facebook site “River Valley Homecoming.”
The remittance can also be mailed along with the first, last and maiden names, if applicable, of those in a party to: River Valley Homecoming, P.O. Box 252, Rumford, ME 04276.

What Nonprofit
Is sponsoring this homecoming event. Is the Town of Rumford contributing to this organization in anyway as in an Initiated Article? Blac ck Mtn. is the location for this event. Hope they will be forthcoming when they ask for monies next year. It is a good undertaking but there has to be some type of accountability on monies made.

Apparently you didn't read the press release. The very first line identifies the non-profit corporation as River Valley Homecoming. Black Mountain is merely the rented site for the event, and there are no funds being contributed from the Town of Rumford OR Black Mountain of Maine. As for accountability of monies, that is between the corporation and the Maine Department of Revenue. And since you saw fit to schedule your class reunion for the same date AFTER this event was already scheduled, could it be that your attendance is not what you expected, and you're trying to blame it on the Homecoming??? If you want to tilt at windmills, you really should try the monstrosities on Record Hill.

You know nothing. My reunion was in the planning stages way before yours. You mess up plans at all you just gave me a venue to posibbly have it at when you cancelled out. My classmates voted on it so I took your cancel out. I don't know who you've been talking to but my reunion response has been overwhelming. At this point and time It will be the largest attendance one to date. Why I asked the questions was for tax purposes only. I don't want taxpayers paying for your event. I was asked the question by a tax payer because I use to serve. I couldn't answer the question sir. Hope the Home coming is successful. My reunion is going to be. In fact a few of my people were going to yours until they found out the real start time. You made them choose not me. And whats's the windmill bull your throwing at me?

As usual, you're misinformed. If you were planning your class reunion long before the Homecoming, how is it that you couldn't get the venue until AFTER I cancelled there??? The reason I cancelled is because our event attendance will exceed the fire capacity at the venue I had originally scheduled last Fall.
Your concern about taxes has been asked and answered...and you're correct in that you "used to serve", until townsfolk became tired of your politics and voted you out. It would appear that you haven't changed much since high school, which relates directly to the windmill reference - "Don Quixote, Man of La Mancha" by Cervantes. I'm quite certain that you never read it, but now might be a good time. Then take a look in the mirror.

Do you have a reading comp problem.? Now your wasting my time. Your arrogance isn't worth wasting my time over. Good luck with your endeavor and hope it is a success. If you would have looked at my response to the Homecoming you would have seen I said maybe. Which means if it wasn't for the start time being the same I would have probably attended during the day if times were different. Yours will no doubt be a success since your posted the possibility of not happening if you didn't start getting responses. That was a good move. Why I'm paying you a compliment is beyond me. I guess I can overlook who you are.
