Family Dollar in Mexico burglarized, suspects nabbed

MEXICO — A local man is charged with breaking into the Family Dollar Store in Mexico Plaza early Thursday morning and stealing $2,500 worth of cigarettes and general merchandise, Lt. Roy Hodsdon said Friday.

Jacob Blood, 19, of Chase Avenue, was arrested on charges of burglary and theft and released from the Mexico Police Department on $1,000 unsecured bail. He is due to appear in Oxford County Superior Court in Paris on Jan. 8.

A 17-year-0ld West Paris teen, who was on probation for other offenses, was also arrested in the case and taken to Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland, he said.

Hodsdon said several young men entered the store through the roof in the back of the building sometime early Thursday. An employee reported the burglary and theft at 8:44 a.m.

In addition to damaging the roof, the locked glass display case that contained cigarettes was pried open and destroyed, resulting in about $700 damage. About 95 percent of the stolen items, including cigarettes, clothing, food, beverages and other merchandise, has been recovered, the lieutenant said.

Hodsdon said charges against a second adult are pending in the case.

The Rumford Police Department and Oxford County Sheriff's Office assisted in the case.

Family Dollar

This guy that was 17 years is still considered a juvenile, why?, he is a young adult and no longer a juvenile. His name should be in print as well as his adult counterparts. If he's old enough to commit the crime, he's certainly old enough to have his name in print and definately old enough to do the time.
