While holding a folded American flag in his right hand and displaying a sentiment from U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, Thursday night, Rumford Town Manager Carlo Puiia told selectmen that Collins sent the town the flag to replace one that was stolen recently from the Information Center beside U.S. Route 2 at the bottom of Falls Hill. Puiia said Collins had read a newspaper article about the flag theft and had a flag flown at the Capitol building in Washington, D.C., to honor the Rumford Visitor Center, and then sent it to Rumford. "We're very appreciative of Sen. Collins that she would go to that length to provide us with a new flag," Puiia said Friday.
