Spencer Voter, Rumford Hospital's New Year's Baby, is held Friday by his proud mother, Jessica Voter, while his father, Scott Voter, sits beside her. A basket overflowing with clothes, toys and other baby items in the foreground, was donated by the hospital's Birthing Center nurses and other employees.
RUMFORD — A Mexico couple's third child is the local hospital's New Year's Baby.
Spencer Voter was born at 8:38 a.m. Wednesday to Scott and Jessica Voter, said Jane Bubar, hospital spokeswoman, Friday afternoon in a news release.
Jessica began having contractions the day before New Year's Eve, so the couple hoped Spencer would be born on New Year's Day, Bubar said.
"We hoped," Jessica Voter said. "But seeing all the babies born here in December, we were a little worried if we'd make it."
Spencer, who weighed 6 pounds, 11 ounces, and was 19 inches long, is truly a Rumford Hospital baby, Bubar said.
"Indeed, the family boasts more than 70 years of service to the hospital," she said.
Spencer's siblings, Blaine, 7, and Kaleb, 2, were also born at the hospital.
Jessica's mother, Paula Voter, manages the hospital's Dietary Department. Paula's mother, Yvonne Campbell, was a registered nurse at the hospital for 45 years, and Campbell's mother managed the hospital's bakery, Bubar said.
"I grew up in this hospital," Jessica Voter said.
In addition to Paula Voter, the children's grandparents include Scott's parents, Colin and Kathy Voter of Peru, and Paula's husband, Charlie, also of Mexico.
