Local youth group hosting music competition

RUMFORD – A program created by the Maine Credit Union League will host its second annual Sound Off Music Competition for young Maine musicians.

The competition is being overseen by Young and Free Maine, a program created by the Maine Credit Union League. It is supported by Oxford Federal Credit Union.

According to the Young and Free Maine website, all entrants must be between the ages of 18 and 25, although in the case of bands, at least one member must be between ages 18 and 25. Entrants will have to submit an audio or video recording of themselves singing or performing original music on the Young and Free Maine website, www.youngfreemaine.com. The public will vote from Jan. 29 to Feb. 7 to choose the top five artists, who will give a live audition Feb. 15.

The winner of the competition will receive a full day recording session at Main Street Studio in Bangor and have the opportunity to perform live at the Kahbang Music, Art and Film Festival, in August at Bangor.

In addition to the Sound Off Music Competition, Kylie Keene, the spokesperson for the Young and Free Maine program, will speak at Black Mountain on Jan. 10, telling 18- to 25-year-olds how she is learning to make the most of her finances.
