DIXFIELD — A fire in a wood shavings silo at the Irving Forest Products plant caused minimal damage Thursday morning, plant Manager Susan Coulombe said.
“The cause is under investigation,” she said.
Firefighters from Dixfield, Peru, Mexico and Rumford responded to the call just before 8 a.m. The fire was contained in the silo and extinguished in about an hour.
Coulombe said about 30 employees were sent home as a precaution. Workers for the evening shift, which begins at 2:30 p.m., were to report to work as usual.
“We appreciate the quick response. The fire departments have been great,” Coulombe said.

Great Job
I would just like to say that the firefighters that were on this scene for most of 3 days total did an outstanding job. The cooperation between all the departments goes to show the dedication and professionalism that these men and women have for their communities. WELL DONE!!
