Roxbury Fire Relief to host snowmobile raffle ride

ROXBURY – The Roxbury Fire Relief will host a snowmobile raffle ride on Saturday, March 2, where the winners will receive a variety of different prizes.

According to Anne Carver, secretary for the Roxbury Fire Relief, the raffle ride will begin at 8 a.m. at 1095 Roxbury Road, where registration to ride is $5.

“We were able to get permission from the Record Hill Wind people to use their land, and as long as the weather permits and there's no ice, everything should be all set,” Carver said. “We got some local businesses to donate door prizes, as well.”

Carver explained that at the end of the ride, three tickets will be drawn, and the three riders who are chosen will win cash prizes.

“We did something like this last summer with the ATV club, and it was very popular,” Carver said. “We wanted to do the raffle ride last year, but there wasn't enough snow to do it, so we had to cancel. As long as the weather stays good for another couple of weeks, we'll be all set.”

Carver said a spaghetti dinner will be served at noon, with cole slaw, bread, drinks and desserts. The lunch will be prepared by members of the Roxbury Fire Relief and volunteers from the community.

“We have less than 20 of us in the Relief, but we have all sorts of volunteers helping us out,” Carver said. “This raffle creates a nice P.R. with the community and is a fun fundraiser to do.”

Carver is expecting “somewhere between 50 and 100 people,” but said, “we're always hoping for more people to show up.”
