Maine jail inmate breaches max security for sex

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — Authorities are reporting a security breach in the maximum security section of Maine's Cumberland County Jail, where a male inmate managed to sneak into another wing for sex with a female inmate.

The sheriff's office says 23-year-old Arien L'Italien of Biddeford was caught crawling between cell blocks on Friday night as he was returning to his own cell.

Officials say a video shows how L'Italien managed to enter the women's cell block, going through four doors to access the cell of 25-year-old Karla Wilson. The two apparently knew other, had communicated through the ventilation system and manipulated the locks on their cells.

The sheriff's office says the location of the correction's officer's station and lack of attention by the officer played a major role in the breach.
