DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am in need of an electric wheelchair. I am not able to get Medicare help yet as I’m 61. I can't walk without pain as both my knees have arthritis in them. I would like to get out more. I am not able to pay much for one. Thank you for any suggestions. — Lynn, Auburn
ANSWER: Sun Spots doesn't know if they'd have an electric one, but a wheelchair may be available from St. Mary’s Medical Equipment To Go. METGO loans equipment to those in need at no charge, a service made possible by a generous donation from the L & A fund and operated by St. Mary's volunteers. You can call 755-3030 or email METGO@stmarysmaine.com
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Once again we have some more free canes for people who need one. You may reach us at 783-3786 anytime. Leave a message if no answer. Thank you, Sun Spots, for the terrific service you provide. — Ron and Nancy, firstname.lastname@example.org

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Are there any places where one may rent a van with a wheelchair lift for a day? I would like to take my mother shopping, but cannot without using something like this. Thank you! — No Name via email
ANSWER: There is one option online: www.ride-away.com, 888-743-3292, offers rentals and has a location in Gray. If there is anyone else locally who offers these rentals, please write to Sun Spots.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Being a newly handicapped person, I use a scooter to get around town. There is a railroad bridge on Bridge Street that had large cracks on both sides of the bridge large enough to swallow my tires. The only way across was to go into the road, and each time I was taking my life in my hands.
When I called Public Works in Lewiston and asked if anything could be done, I was told that it would be looked into. I thought "yeah, sure, in my dreams." To my surprise, it was fixed quickly. I would like to thank Public Works for their caring. — Misty, email@example.com
ANSWER: People often complain about government but rarely praise it no matter how well deserved. Thank you for taking the time to write with your positive experience.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: On Friday, Nov. 2, the Rumford Falls Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 1248 will be hosting an evening of auctions to raise money for the Lew Reed Spinal Cord Injury Fund.
