05/24/2013 - "A Midsummer's Night Dream," theater students
Rumford, Maine May 6, 2013 Theater Arts students at Mountain Valley High School will perform A Midsummer's Night Dream on May 23 and 24 at 6 p.m. in the Senior Garden on the side of the school. They are performing outside in a "Shakespeare in the Park" style. Audience members are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets. One of Shakespeare's most commonly performed play, A Midsummer's Night Dream is the story of the magical and enchanting events that can happen to lovers in the midst of the summer. Admission to the performance is by donation. All proceeds will be used for a class trip to see a play in Boston.

05/25/2013 - Bike Rodeo
Rumford, Maine River Valley healthy Communities Coalition in collaboration with Western Foothills Kids Association will be hosting their first Bike Rodeo, May 25, 2013. The Bike Rodeo will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Rumford Elementary School, 121 Lincoln Avenue, Rumford, Maine.The objective of the bike rodeo will be to encourage and develop safe bicycling habits for youth. We'll provide safety inspection for participants' helmets and bicycles for young bicyclists in the area. Helmet checks, bicycle condition checks, and continuous traffic skills are important aspects of bicycle safety, all of which will take place during the bike rodeo on Saturday.

05/29/2013 - Preschool story time for ages 2-5
Preschool Story Time at Rumford Public Library The weekly story times in the Rumford Public Library Childrens room will resume on Wednesday, September 5, 2012. Area youngsters ages 2-5 are invited to attend the preschool story times, which are held every Wednesday at 10:00 am. Children who attend will enjoy stories, songs, and activities, as well as make a take home craft that reflects that weeks theme. This is an excellent opportunity for parents to have their children meet and interact with other preschoolers. Story times will not be held during school vacations or in the event of school cancellations.

05/31/2013 - Spaghetti dinner and silent auction
The Rumford & Farmington Local Councils, part of the ConsumerCouncil System of Maine, will be hosting a spaghetti dinner fundraiser on May 31, 2013 to raise funds for the "Bridging The Gap" conference to take place in June. The dinnerwill be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Eagles Club, 129 Rumford Ave., Rumford,ME. Tickets for the dinner are Adults: $6, Seniors $4.00 and Children: $3.00. Tickets may be purchased at the door. A silent auction will take place during the dinner.All proceeds from the dinner will be used for expenses associated with the council'supcoming "Bridging The Gap" conference scheduled for June 2013. The objective of the conference is to have open dialogue about how to improve interactions between mentalhealth consumers experiencing emotional distress and law enforcement personnel. Apanel discussion is planned along with time for the community to participate in the discussion. 06/01/2013 - Five-mile hike and cookout
The Mahoosuc Land Trust will be hosting a hike on its new Black and White Trail on Saturday, June 1, beginning at the base of Black Mountain of Maine in Rumford at 10AM. The hike is part of the American Hiking Society's National Trails Day®. The moderately strenuous 5-mile celebratory hike will be preceded by a brief opening ceremony. A lunchtime cookout on the trail will be provided and shuttle service from the base of Rumford Whitecap back to Black Mountain will be available.
