LEWISTON — The Great Falls Forum lecture series will present Rex Rhoades, executive editor of the Sun Journal, speaking on “Newspapers and the New Economics of News.” Rhoades will speak at noon Thursday, May 20, in Callahan Hall at the Lewiston Public Library, 200 Lisbon St.
Rhoades has spent 34 years as a journalist, having come on board as executive editor at the Sun Journal in 1997 after working in newsrooms in Pennsylvania, Wyoming and Ohio. A native of Pittsburgh, Pa., he graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a double major of American government and economics.
In his Great Falls Forum talk, he will share his views on what the future holds for America’s daily newspapers, including the Sun Journal, since, after decades of stability, the U.S. media landscape has been rocked by the advent of the Web.
Admission is free to the event, which is the final Great Falls Forum program of the 2009-10 season. Attendees are invited to bring brown-bag lunches, or to take advantage of the Forum’s partnership with Guthries cafe and request one of the eatery’s custom-made sandwiches or salads to be delivered to the library in advance of the talk. Orders may be placed by calling Guthries at 376-3344. The menu is available at www.myspace.com/guthriesplace. Bottled water will be available at the library.
