N.H. fishermen lack ice, access

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) – To fish or not to fish?

Lake trout and salmon lakes may not have frozen over yet because it’s been so warm – but that doesn’t mean that they’re open to anglers.

The Fish and Game Department says that from Jan. 1 through March 31, fish may be taken from these designated lakes by ice-fishing only.

Anglers can’t fish the open water in these lakes until April 1.

Officials note that a lake doesn’t have to be frozen over entirely to meet the regulation; if coves have formed ice that is thick and safe enough, anglers may fish through manmade holes in the ice on these areas.
