N.H. men land in water after ATV breaks through ice

RINDGE, N.H. (AP) — Two fishermen are drying off and warming up after falling through the ice while riding an all-terrain vehicle in Rindge, N.H.

New Hampshire Fish and Game officials 47-year-old Edwin Ridley and 48-year-old Robert Plaszewski were taking part in the annual Pelletier’s Ice Fishing Derby on Contoocook Lake Sunday when the ATV fell through the ice.

The men, both from Fitzwilliam, were able to pull themselves out with the help of other fishermen, and the machine was removed from the water a few hours later.

Officials say the incident is a reminder that this winter’s warm weather and high winds have affected ice formation, particularly on larger lakes.
