BUCKFIELD - The Buckfield Recreation Commission is holding a softball tournament over the weekend of August 29 and 30 at Bessey Field and Buckfield High School. The entry fee is $250 per team with a limit of 12 teams. We will play by ASA rules, but no official rosters will be necessary. Winning team will receive champions' t-shirts. Teams welcomed on first-come first-served basis. Concessions will be available at the games. For more information, call Chris Reed at 336-2628 or reed031@netzero.com.

Unity Barn Raisers Golf Classic
VASSALBORO - The fourth-annual Unity Barn Raisers Golf Classic will be held at Natanis Golf Course on Sunday, August 30. Proceeds will benefit economic and rural vitality and health and wellness in Waldo County. The rain-or-shine tournament will feature a scramble format with a 9 a.m. start. Registration begins at 8 a.m. Fee is $100 per player and includes 18 holes of golf, golf cart, gift bag and lunch.
Awards and prizes include a $10,000 hole-in-one bonus, putting contest, closest to pin, low gross and low net top three and a 50/50 raffle. To register, call 948-9005 or email ubr@uninets.net.

LEAP golf tournament
NEW SHARON - LEAP, Inc., is holding its third-annual golf tournament at Sandy River Golf Course on Saturday, Sept. 19. All proceeds will benefit LEAP and its non-Medicaid funded programs.
There will be a formal start at 1 p.m. with a barbeccue and refreshments to follow at the end of the tournament. Registration is limited to 72 players, so prior reservations aare strongly recommended. Same-day registration will start at 11 a.m. Cost is $30 per golfer or $100 for a team of four.
