NORWAY — A Sunday afternoon blaze that started in the kitchen of a second-floor apartment displaced two families in Norway.
Norway Fire Chief Dennis Yates said that the fire broke out around 1:30 p.m. in the second-floor rear apartment at 7 Lynn St. behind Cumberland Farms. The apartment was one of 11 in the building, of which 10 are occupied and one is being renovated.
Yates said that firefighters had the blaze under control within 45 minutes and that fire damage was contained to the second-floor apartment. He said that the State Fire Marshal's Office was on scene and that while the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, it is believed to be accidental.
Mutual aid was provided by fire departments from Paris, Oxford, Poland, Mechanic Falls, Waterford and West Paris.
The name of the woman living in the apartment where the fire broke out was not available Sunday night. Yates said that the residents living in the first-floor apartment were also displaced due to heavy water damage to the apartment. He added that a third family was asked to find a place to stay just for Sunday night while their apartment aired out.

Great job Fire fighters this could have been much worse.
