FREEDOM, N.H. (AP) - A 19-year-old Maine man has died of injuries suffered when the All-Terrain Vehicle he was riding crashed into a tree in New Hampshire.

The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department said Jason Phair of Gorham died early Monday at Conway Memorial Hospital.

Phair, who was living with his girlfriend and her parents in Conway, was attending a party in Freedom. Partygoers were taking turns riding on the ATV. The department says Phair rode as a passenger, then took a ride on his own. The department says he wasn't wearing a helmet and it appears he lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree at about 1 a.m.

Phair was brought back to the house, where someone called 911 at about 2:30 a.m. and he was taken to the hospital.

Unfortunately, most of these

Unfortunately, most of these tragic accidents are as a result of inexperience. Someone wants to try out a machine, and maybe aren't familiar with the controls, or with handling charecteristics, and they take off on a joyride, which turns out to be their last ride. It happens with ATV's, motorcycles, and snowmachines as well. And with automobiles. If a would be joyrider would take just a couple of minutes to think it through, and decide to do the sensible thing, they may live to ride another day. A helmet doesn't come with a brain installed, it's just foam and plastic. It's common sense that will provide a safe result in any situation. I know, I lost a loved one to an ATV crash, and he was wearing a helmet.

Shouldn't we be asking why

Shouldn't we be asking why no one at the party called 9-1-1 until an hour and a half later as well?

So sorry another youngin

So sorry another youngin died as a result of an ATV accident!! When are people going to wake up and start wearing helmets? Most often the fatal accidents are the ones that the rider wasnt wearing a helmet. I hope someone, somewhere learns from this accident and will wear their helmet in the future.
