Kennedy's family announced his death in a brief statement released early Wednesday.
For nearly a half-century in the Senate, Kennedy was a dominant voice on health care, civil rights, war and peace, and more. To the American public, though, he was best known as the last surviving brother of a storied political family.
Kennedy was elected to the Senate in 1962, when his brother John was president, and served longer than all but two senators in history.
Over the decades, Kennedy put his imprint on every major piece of social legislation to clear the Congress.
To die of cancer - any kind of cancer - is a fate I would never wish on anyone. Having said that, I truly despised Ted Kennedy. He made himself out to be the Hero Of The Working Man, yet he never held an honest job a day in his life. He was born into more money (most of it illegally obtained) than most of us will ever see in a lifetime. I'll not mourn this man, unlike his two older brothers. (Bobby Kennedy; now, there was a man who would have made a wonderful President!...)
"The democracy will cease to exist when the government takes from those who would work and gives to those who would not." - Thomas Jefferson.
Bill, Teddy Kennedy was a United States Senator for over 45 years, longer than you've been on welfare. By every account he worked diligently for the downtrodden daily, instead of walking over the poor like you. His birth into a family of means makes you appear jealous, very unbecoming. The money came from bootlegging, during a time when republicans like you tried to tell the rest of America what it should or should not be doing. However you do show great character attacking someone AFTER they died. Your mother must be so proud!
What’s the difference between the coverage of Ted Kennedy’s death and the coverage of Michael Jackson’s death?
I’ll NEVER get tired of hearing, “Ted Kennedy is DEAD!”
"In the history of the nation, there has never been a political party so ridiculous as today's Democrats. It's as if all the brain-damaged people in America got together and formed a voting bloc." Ann Coulter
What a bunch of tools. I have a life, a job (3 actually), and I'm not a teen. This particular asshat Kennedy was a womanizer, a drunk, a murderer, and an opportunist. I 'm glad he's dead and I hope he suffered. To the end he was a partisan hack, and a capital 'D' D-bag. We are better as a society, as a nation, and as a people in general with one more evil sack taking his dirt nap. Now if the people of Mass can get their heads out of their rectums long enough to vote in someone who may actually do some good, from any party, then his death may actually have created some good after all. Burn in the fires you so richly deserve fat Ted.

if anybody is NOT gonna miss this SOB..Gimme a HELL YA!!!
Well, I don't really wish bad on people, but for all those talking bad about him. What comes around goes around. Also, be respectful by the sounds of it you guys are teens a man died today whether you liked him or not is no need to come on to bash him. Get a job or life or something.
Sad day at the bars and pubs, in Hyannis Port. They loose a good customer.
Lots of pots calling kettles black today!
I didn't agree with the man's politics at all, but one would have to admit he leaves behind a legacy of being a lion in congress. Like him, or not, he was an effective statesman and he loved this country. RIP, Senator Kennedy...
Shakespeare wrote, " the evil that men do lives after them, the good is oft interred with their bones..." so be it with Sen Kennedy. However, to all the crack lawyers among you, murder is bullhockey. The absolute most you could claim is that he should have been charged with involuntary manslaughter, murder is reserved for a deliberate act, and this was totally an accident. Shakespeare also said you can tell alot about a man's character by how they speak of their enemies when they die. Guess we see the lack of character among some bloggers, no surprise here.
I can see by reading the comments, not one of you has a clue, as to what that family gave up for just "regular" people. No matter how much they gave, (their lives) there are still the younger people, who will mock them, even at a time like this. Maybe you should find some history books & start reading, start with Joe Jr & continue on. Most of all, in case you missed this life lesson, respect a family in a time of mourning, and say nothing at all.
Sniff...
to bad, so sad.
Takes Gov Patrick off the hook for changing that bill.
I wonder if they will now build windmills off his precious Cape Cod?
Yes, drinking and driving are part of Kennedy's history and what is difficult to understand is how different the laws were when it happened. In the mid 70's you could go to drive through liquor stores in FL and order a cocktail for the road. Johnny Carson was arrested for DUI and didn't miss a show. We now know better and most do better. That said, Ted Kennedy was a hero for many liberal causes and I respect him for that.
Good thing republicans don't drink and drive. Oh wait....
Although I believe his ultra liberal voting record and indefensible personal decisions deflated what could have at one time been a significant legacy, at least in most families, I do admire him for his service and commitment to our government. Let's all tip a frosty Guiness to Sub Commander Kennedy.
It's too bad some person had to loose their life by cancer. I believe if some people would read the story of Chappaquiddick, some people might understand why some of us didn't like this man. Drinking and driving do not mix, PERIOD! The story of Chappaquiddick explains it nice and clearly and it also tells of the lies and deceit.

It's about time the Kennedy clan stops thinking they can run this country. I think that all people in congress, sentate etc should be replaced and get new blood in to run this country. I think there should be term limits of 4 years no longer so these OLD ideas get put away and new ideas of a new generation happen. Our country is heading down hill and fast because of some stupid lame ideas of Obama. We are getting more and more in to debt and I don't see it turning around any time soon. Our children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, they will ALL foot the bill for cash for clunkers and all these specialty tax checks people get. I'm so sick of it all. I don't believe that any one reading what I am writing really believes this is the ' change ' you intended to be voting for.
mikec, I bet you consider yourself a good Christian.
