LEWISTON, Maine (AP) - Activist groups in Maine say they have up to 40,000 written messages supporting President Obama's health care reform proposals.

The groups planned to deliver the letters to the members of the state's congressional delegation Wednesday, urging them to support Obama's proposals. They planned to hold a news conference at 3 p.m. in front of Rep. Mike Michaud's office in Lewiston.

Groups organizing the letter campaign are Organizing for America, Maine Change that Works, AFSCME and the Maine People's Alliance.

I agree with skippy. How can

I agree with skippy. How can they support something that isn't finished yet? I am all for heathcare reform but not that which forces taxpayers to pay for abortions. I think that is the most hideous crime against humanity today, especially given the statistics. Many people don't even realize that women who get an abortion, already had one...or two or three... They, thus, have multiple abortions. That to me signals something is psychologically wrong with our society. A quick fix to every problem is not the solution when it comes to life and death situations like pregnancy.

There is nothing in any of

There is nothing in any of the proposals out there that will do away with the Hyde amendment.

No concrete proposals have

No concrete proposals have come out yet; how can they support what to date has been just a fishing expedition to test public sentiment? Those who support change without knowing what actual changes are planned may be in for an unpleasant surprise. Health care is expensive and if you want the government to give you unlimited care you will have to pay a price, either monetary or slow and poor service. We have an excellent health care system in this country that only needs minor tweaking. Forming an assigned risk pool of insurers who would take people with pre-existing conditions at a price where the insurers can see possibility of a profit and opening the field to all insurance companies in return for their not refusing to take on any applicant who has current insurance would be a positive step. To expect the rich to pay for our services will get you as far as the tooth fairy. It is not fair to look to others to take care of us. That is not the American way.
