Route 2 accident kills 1 Forces miles-long detour through Canton, Jay

WILTON — Wilton police are investigating a fatal
accident involving a car, pickup truck and tractor-trailer Thursday afternoon on
Route 2 just west of East Dixfield village.
Extensive debris on both sides of the highway and diesel fuel leaking from the B. D. S. Waste Disposal Inc. tractor-trailer out of Corinna, forced a miles-long detour for Route 2 traffic through Canton and Jay after police and Wilton, Dixfield and East Dixfield firefighters shut the road down.
The accident happened at about 2:10 p.m. State police accident reconstructionists were on scene by about 3 p.m.
Two NorthStar Ambulance crews tended to possibly injured motorists.
