9 month, 1 day sentence given to man for assault

FARMINGTON - Adam Mears of Jay was sentenced to three years in jail with all but nine months and one day of that sentence suspended after he pleaded guilty Monday to aggravated assault.

Mears, 19, was also placed on probation for three years during the hearing at Franklin County Superior Court.

Mears has remained at the Franklin County jail in Farmington since his arrest last May.

Mears initially served time for violating his probation and remained in jail serving time toward the aggravated assault charge.

A charge of attempted murder and another count of aggravated assault were dropped.

Jay police arrested Mears in 2004 for allegedly stabbing Robert Hart, 21, of Auburn twice during an altercation at a mobile home park in Jay.

Mears also cut the top of his right little finger when a knife closed on it during the scuffle.
