LINCOLN, Maine (AP) - Continuing clouds and rain is continuing to generate complaints from Maine farmers.
The Bangor Daily News reports that concerns include crop-devouring insects that are thriving in the wet conditions, plants and fruit molding in the fields, and an inability to drive tractors on wet ground.
The newspaper reports that late blight disease has been spotted, jeopardizing Maine's potato crop.
Ken Gustin, state director for the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Farm Service Agency, said Wednesday that farmers may not know the overall loss until the end of the year. He already has asked each county to provide the agency with damage assessment reports.
