New Gloucester man charged in camp burglary

CHAIN OF PONDS TOWNSHIP — Franklin County sheriff's deputies charged a New Gloucester man Thursday in connection to a break-in at a camp on Route 27.

Deputy Chris Chase responded to the burglary reported at 12:40 p.m. Thursday, Lt. Niles Yeaton said. A boat motor, BB gun and a chain saw were taken, he said. Entry was gained by breaking a window. The owner of the camp found the motor and BB gun at a nearby camp, he said.

Area law enforcement officers were alerted about the break-in, and Deputy Heidi Gould stopped a sport utility vehicle hauling a trailer with an all-terrain vehicle on it Thursday in Phillips, Yeaton said. As a result, Nicholas Hodgkin, 18, of New Gloucester was issued a summons on a charge of felony burglary in connection to the burglary. A 15-year-old boy from  New Gloucester who was with Hodgkin is also expected to face a charge through the juvenile correction system, Yeaton said.

A 17-year-old Peru girl and another from New Gloucester were also with the teens but were not charged, he said.

The chainsaw was recovered and was expected to be returned to the owner on Friday night.

Hodgkin is scheduled to appear in a Farmington court on Oct. 16.

The kid likes to steal chain saws. Maybe the owner that he robbed has a couple acres with trees he needs cleared. The two other juvies can help him stack cords and put branches in the wood chipper. Work 'em...work'em...work the chainsaw gang 'till they can't squeeze their hands. They won't be able to steal.

It has nothing to do with Parents, How do Parents know what there kid is doing if there not around.. It wasn't a good thing to do but, at least they returned his things. and a little harsh on they should lock him up? What if it was a first time thing? You don't know. Have some Respect, I mean everyones opinion is nice, but I think its one of thouse you need to be there or you need to hear the story type thing. just like every other article in the paper, there are people who do silly things everyday. and than there are people who do it once and realize it was the worst decison of there life. Don't be so judgemental have respect.
