College roundup: CMCC tops EMCC

AUBURN - Ahmed Mohamed netted a pair of goals Tuesday as Central Maine Community College stormed to a 4-0 victory over eastern Maine Community College in men's soccer action.

Shane Hurtle and Yussuf Shinio also tallied for the Mustangs (2-1) to complete the scoring. Jon Caron made five saves in net for CMCC to notch the shutout.

Endicott 4, UMF 1

BEVERLY, Mass. - Colin Doody netted a pair of goals as Endicott downed the University of Maine at Farmington 4-1 in men's soccer action Tuesday.

Doody posted an 18-yard strike off a pass from Brian Connery; and three minutes later, the Gulls (2-3) took a 2-0 advantage when Bryan Lee headed the ball into the net at the far post.

Out of the break, the Beavers (3-1) finally got on the board on a Nile Rozie penalty kick. But, Endicott picked up another pair of goals from Doody and Ryan Coates to seal the win.

Women's soccer

Bowdoin 4, Bates 0

BRUNSWICK - Kat Flaherty posted her first career shutout and Ellery Gould scored twice as Bowdoin rolled past Bates 4-0 in collegiate women's soccer action Tuesday. 

The Polar Bears (1-1) exploded for three second-half goals, the first coming shortly after the break. Gould caried the ball down the right wing, cut to the center and left-footed a shot that tuckedn inside the post at 47:52 to make it 2-0. With 17 minutes to go, Stacie Sammott broke free on Bobcat netminder Annie Burns, ripped an initial shot that was saved, then pounced on the rebound to find Amy Hackett in front. Hackett tapped the ball into the net to give Bowdoin a 3-0 lead.

Flaherty finished with eight saves on the day, while Burns turned back 12 shots for Bates.

USM 2, UMF 0

GORHAM - Junior midfielder Heidi DeHann of Lewiston and freshman forward Catherine Wise each scored second-half goals to give the University of Southern Maine a 2-0 victory over the University of Maine at Farmington in women's soccer action Tuesday.

DeHaan put the Huskies (1-4) on the board 10 minutes into the second half when she took a pass from senior Samantha Mathieu on the left-wing and lifted the ball over goalie McKell Barnes of Durham and into the far side of the net. Wise added an insurance marker in the 86th minute.

Senior goalkeeper Alison Bradley posted her first shutout of the season for the Huskies, making three saves. Barnes finished the match with two stops for the Beaves (2-2).
