Rand gains Red Cross appointment

AUGUSTA — The American Red Cross in Maine announces the appointment of Phyllis Arnold Rand as the Red Cross Veterans Affairs Voluntary Services representative to the Togus Veterans Administration Medical Center in Augusta.

Rand, the daughter of a retired Vietnam veteran, is a volunteer for the Red Cross's Services to Armed Forces, and is the Red Cross's Volunteer State Disaster Relations liaison. She is an environmental specialist for the Maine Department of Environmental Protection. She lives in Lewiston with her husband and their children.

The VAVS program is the largest volunteer program in the federal government. Its mission is to provide a structured volunteer program under the management of VA volunteer program managers in cooperation with the community service organizations to provide volunteer services to America's veterans and their family members.
