RUMFORD — Three juvenile boys were arrested last week and charged with felony criminal burglary and vandalism, and theft in connection with an incident that occurred at a former business on Franklin Street. A 20-year-old Rumford man was also charged in the case.

Capt. Dan Garbarini said the vacant building was burglarized sometime between 1 and 2 p.m. on Sept. 22. Doors were broken to gain entrance, then a number of items inside were destroyed, and a fire extinguisher set off. An unknown amount of loose change was also taken. Police estimate the amount of damage at more than $2,000.

Arrested were a 15-year-old Sumner boy, at 2:30 p.m. at his school that afternoon, a 14-year-old Mexico boy the next day at his school and a 17-year-old Rumford boy, at his home at 8 a.m. on Sept. 23. All are students at the Pennacook Learning Center in Rumford.

They were released to the custody of their parents and are scheduled to appear in Rumford District Court on Nov. 3.

The 17-year-old allegedly returned to the former Stanley's Furniture building around 5 p.m. on Sept. 22 with Parker Erkine, 20, Rumford, and another suspect, who is currently under investigation, said investigating officer, Detective Sgt. James Bernard. A brick wall was kicked in to gain entrance. The 17-year-old was charged with criminal mischief. Erkine was summonsed for criminal mischief and criminal trespass.

The 17-year-old had previously been charged in the theft of a four-wheeler in August. The vehicle was later recovered and returned to its owner.
