RANDOLPH, N.H. — A Lewiston man remained in a New Hampshire hospital following a Friday evening head-on crash in Randolph, N.H., that claimed the lives of three people — including a Lewiston mother.
Christopher Caron, 27, of Lewiston, was listed in fair condition at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Hanover, N.H., according to a nursing supervisor. A passenger in the 2000 Ford Explorer he was driving — Rachel Metivier, 26, of Lewiston — was pronounced dead at the scene Friday night.
"It appears at this time that one of the vehicles crossed the center line," said Trooper Amanda Johnson of the New Hampshire State Police. "But it's still under investigation as to whether or not any charges will be filed."
Johnson declined to elaborate on which vehicle was believed to have crossed the center line.
Caron's 3-year-old daughter remained in serious but stable condition as of Sunday afternoon, according to Johnson. She added a that Metivier's 6-year-old son was released from the hospital.
Also killed were two passengers in the 2007 Nissan Altima driven by Diane Silsby, 41, of Lunenburg, Vt., who was also transported to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center with serious injuries. Pronounced dead at the scene of the crash were Silsby's 15-year-old daughter and her 83-year-old mother, Leona Dunn, 83, of Lancaster, N.H.
The crash occurred about 5 p.m. Friday on Route 2 in Randolph. Police said that alcohol, drugs and the weather do not appear to be factors in the accident.
