Motorcycle rider airlifted to CMMC following crash

NORWAY — A New Gloucester man was clinging to life Sunday night at Central Maine Medical Center following a Sunday evening accident on Route 118 in Norway.
Carroll Francis, 52, was listed in critical condition Sunday night at Central Maine Medical Center where he was transported by medical helicopter following the 6:20 p.m. crash.
Trooper Paul Casey of the Maine State Police said a crash reconstruction team worked to piece together the events that led up to the crash involving Francis' motorcycle and a car.
The crash was initially reported to the Norway Police Department and the state police were called in at 6:35 p.m. to assist with the investigation. The crash happened on Route 118 right in front of the Little Red School House, just south of the Lake Store at Norway Lake.
Casey said that a 2002 Chrysler driven by Susan Palmer, 52, of Florida was headed south on Route 118. When Palmer attempted to make a left-hand turn into a driveway across the street from the school, she turned right into the path of the oncoming northbound motorcycle ridden by Francis. Palmer did not suffer any injuries as a result of the crash.

I totally agree with you.

I totally agree with you. The point is, he's gone off to Heaven, leaving the poor family with a loss, and just think about the great memories he left, not who was in the right/wrong, or which road goes which way.

Our prayers are with you and your family. Love, your Florida fam....Jill, Ed, Eamon and Ethan

The writer does seem

The writer does seem confused about the directions.

If "north" means the direction toward the Greenwood Road (which most local people would think) and "south" means toward downtown Norway, Ms. Palmer could not have been turning "left" (as I assume she told police, since she was not injured) from a "south"-bound course into a driveway across from the Red School House. It is on the lake shore, to the left approaching Norway (and, by the above definitions, "north" of the Lake Store).

If she actually was traveling away from Norway and he was traveling toward it, as the article (minus the north-south confusion) suggests, it is hard to understand how he could have been at fault (assuming his sobriety) unless she signaled well before he approached and he failed to see it and realize that she was about to turn in front of him.

One or both parties also unfortunately might not have known that this stretch of Route 118 is a notorious speed trap and the 35 m.p.h. limit is strictly enforced.

andie I fail to see your

andie I fail to see your point. An inatentive driver turns into the path of a motorcyclist and you point out the directional nature of the road?

This is the one fo three

This is the one fo three Motorcycle Accidents I have heard about since Saturday afternoon! I saw the aftermath of one myself. PEOPLE, WE NEED TO PAY ATTENTION TO OTHER DRIVERS! I ride and I would HATE for someone to pull in front of me and say, "I didn't see him!" Every year, more and more motorcyclists are on the road. Especially with the cast of fuel rising. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, I beg of you. Look two times instead on once. Please, for sake of us Riders and our friends and Families, watch for Motorcyclists. You could save our lives by being on the lookout for us. Thank you.
