Lisbon man dies in Bowdoin accident, Lewiston man arrested

BOWDOIN — A 25-year-old Lisbon motorcyclist has died as a result of a collision with a motor vehicle on Route 125 in Bowdoin on Monday night, according to police.

Wade Foster, 35, of Lewiston, turned his 1995 Chrysler Concord left in front of a motorcycle driven by Richard Paraskevakos, 25, of Lisbon, at approximately 6:45 p.m., according to a release from the Sagadahoc County Sheriff's Department.

Paraskevakos was flown to Central Maine Medical Center by helicopter, but was later pronounced dead.

Foster was arrested and charged with operating under the influence of alcohol and taken to Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset, police said. According to a spokesman at the jail, Wade was booked and immediately bailed on $2,500 unsecured bond. He is scheduled to make his first appearance in Sixth District Court in West Bath on Dec. 15 at 1 p.m.

According to the Bureau of Motor Vehicle records, Foster is a habitual offender with a previous OUI conviction in 1999. His license was suspended for three months at the time, and he has since been convicted of operating after suspension and has been subject to several administrative suspension orders revoking his license between 2001 and 2007. His last conviction, in 2007, was for failure to display a valid registration plate.

Foster has no previous record of being involved in an accident.

Monday's crash is being reconstructed by the Brunswick Police Department and investigated by the Sagadahoc County Sheriff's Department.

I dont quite understand how people can pass judgement so easily on a person. My thoughts and prayers go out to both families involved in this tragedy. I know Wade on a personal level, he is a very caring man and father with a big heart. He will suffer for the rest of his life and there wont be a day that goes by that he doesnt think about what happen that night. Those of us that know Wade need to be there for him regardless of his decision to get behind the wheel that night and help him. Yes he made a poor choice but come on who hasnt made choices in life that they regret. All too many times you read about or hear about accidents, not always involving alcohol, that happen the same way as the one on Monday night, made a turn thinking they had enough time, and what do people say about the one that may have taken the life of a loved one? Nothing! Again my thoughts and prayers to both families, but dont judge a person because of a poor choice.

I don't think anyone disagrees TJ Olson with the way you support Richie's family and how much of a tragedy this is for them. However this is a forum for discussion not a memorial site. Yes, Foster is in the wrong. Yes, it was his fault. We are all just discussing the topic. YOU'RE allowed to. Then so are those who have a different take on things than you. We're responding to direct quotes from others on this site not spewing advocacy for drunk driving. We are not trying to take away from the real tragedy at hand here. The argument is about how stringent driving laws should be not about absolving Foster personally. Its called detaching and partaking in healthy debate.

Just a little something for everyone to think about.....If Wade had a prior oui in 99 then he was driving on a provisional license which means a 0 tolerance for alcohol.. so even one beer he would have been arrested does any one know what is alcohol level is ? lets find out all the facts befor we pass judgement.. the way i was raised it isnt up to us to pass judgement.

All I know is that I will be attending a funeral on Saturday for Richie, and This Wade guy is going to be out at a Bar or something for the weekend, drinking about how upset he is. I'm not really sure where half of you people are coming from. I understand that this Wade guy has a family, but has nobody any empathy or compassion for Richards Family? A mother and father who have to bury their 25 year old son? A 2 year old daughter Shavelle, who loved her father to pieces, not knowing where he is any longer, his widow Marissa, sitting at home alone now, C'mon guys, he had a life, who cares what people like Wade have to live with, he will see his kids again. People who drink and drive shouldnt ever be allowed to get thier license re-instated. This guy has got busted for OUI before, yeah you say it was 10 years ago, so I guess the last 9 years he was just lucky and didnt get caught. I hope he is sentenced to life in prison, without probation, but we all know that he will only have a slap on the wrist. I dont care what anybody has to say, obviosly Wade didnt care much about his children, he was dumb enough to get into a car drunk, and drive it. What if it were the other way around? What if he crossed lanes instead of hitting a motorcycle, hit a Kenworth hauling logs? If he died, who's fault would it be. People should pay for their mistakes, I know I did, his OUI in 99' should have been the crossroads in his life, put the bottle down. My Reguards to Richies family and friends, best wishes to all, and Heather, Remember Richie was Shavelles dad, dont take that away from him, he loved her very much...

Wade gets no sympathy from me. Seems he didn't learn the first time. He didn't have any remorse when he got into his car and drove. That was his choice to drive. As for mommy2n1: I have never driven while intoxicated. In fact I have never had my license suspended.

then i commend you for never having had your license suspended however everyone makes mistakes.. and yes mistakes all to often lead to tragedy . Wade to has made his share of mistakes.. but who are we to judge?? who are we to make these crude and disrespectful remarks.. dont you think all of us making these comments is making a mistake by putting these words out there so both the victims (richards) and wade's children can read these horrible remarks?

People please!!! Do you know Wade Foster and the type of person he is? Do you know his family and the type of people they are? Do you know if he has a wife or small children? Good people make poor choices and tragic mistakes.
I know someone who went through this and he is no longer on this earth because the guilt was more then he could bare and he took his own life after years of living in severe depression!!
So to say that the only thing Wade Foster is worried about is how he is going to fix his vehicle. You are way out of line!!!

My heart bleeds for the victim's family and children. This is such a tragic loss! But please know that Wade is NOT worrying about his vehicle. Wade is grieving in a way hopefully none of us will never understand or feel.

Have you ever let you license expire. well let me tell you something if you are stopped on a license that has expired you are charged with operating after suspension. And if you cant afford or forget to register you vehicle and are given a ticket that you cant afford to pay then your license is suspended.
Wade's license was valid at the time of the accident. Never did the news say it wasnt!! Yes he had a prior OUI 10 years ago. but the other suspensions were for common traffic violations.
I even had my license suspended once for failure to fill out an accident report correctly. And drove with no license for 4 years before I found out!!

2 beers in one hour=.08 alcohol level. THINK ABOUT HOW MANY TIMES YOU HAVE DRIVEN AFTER TWO BEERS?

this is tragic and avoidable yes..and laws should be more strict.. but before we tie the noose and light our torches.. look in the mirror.. so your'e all saying not one person here has EVER gotten behind the wheel after having a drink????.. .08 is DRUNK in this state... i could have had many DUI's by now..say what you will .. but he's human too.. he just got caught 10 years ago.. THAT'S habitual.. i bet alot of people are driving on a suspended license.. added togther it does not paint him in a good light and i get that..but get off your high horses.. i'd love to pull all your personal info from the last 10 yrs... it is awful what happend to the gentleman on the motorcycle.. and yes D Wilson.. Foster will live in deep regret regardless of fault.. that too is sad..

It is highly unlikely he will serve a single day in jail. Look how fast he made bail. He didn't even see the inside of a cell. Probably drove home. Before long they will be calling this an "accident" and heaping sympathy on him because "he will have to live the rest of his life knowing he kileed someone" when the truth is he isn't giving this guy a thought beyond the inconvenience it was to him and having to get his car fixed.

It's a shame that someone has to die before a drunk driver does serious time.

Why was Foster out on the road anyways? I would support putting habitual offenders in Warren supermax, One more needless death because of the too soft judical system in Maine. How many more poeple need to die before these liberal judges stop letting these people back out on the road? I am a Truck driver, and I also ride a motorcycle.I see the tragedies caused by these MORONS who drink and drive, so many familys are ripped apart just because one person thinks he or she is above the law, I would favor ten to fifteen year prison terms for these idiots. and if they kill somebody, Life with no parole.
some may say that is too harsh, Maybe.... but ask the familys of the victims. alcholism is not a disease, it is a charecter flaw, and those who kill and cripple should be made to pay with their freedom, and those who enable them should pay also, such as letting a known offender use their vehicle, it should be confescated and sold to help the surviving familys. No Exceptions.

If you choose to take a drink and you choose to drive, you have chosen to take a life and that is MURDER.

sally goyette says

The definition of murder is ..........premeditated,willful,intentional killing of another human being that was premeditated . I do not believe this young man (Foster ) made a concious decision to go out and kill some one and change the entire lives of two families. a tragic mistake ? ... yes , murder ?...... i think not!

Please let there be justice for once and let a drunk driver do serious time and a driver who kileed a motorcyclist co serious time and both suffer the financial cosequences as well by being forced to pay the victim's fsmily for their loss. Lets start making an example out of everyone of these drivers.
