Road damages estimated at nearly $193,000

PHILLIPS — Damage to two roads in Phillips from the June 27 weekend rains was estimated at nearly $193,000, Town Manager Jim Collins said Monday.
The town had several roads damaged but the hardest hit were Tory Hill and Wheeler Hill.
Detailed estimates were sent to Franklin County Emergency Management Director Tim Hardy in Farmington.
A representative of Maine Emergency Management Agency and Hardy plan to go out Wednesday and do a preliminary damage assessment of the roads in the towns that have reported damage during recent heavy rains, Hardy said.
"We're doing this in preparation to see if we can apply for a disaster declaration," Hardy said.
The threshold for a disaster in Franklin County is about $92,000, he said.
There are eight towns in Franklin County that reported damage, he said, but by far, Phillips received the most damage.
Other counties reporting serious damages during the storm are Oxford, Hancock and Waldo, and there may be more with the most recent storms, he said.
