A new gazebo provides shade for students of Mallett School in Farmington. Former Farmington Rotary Club president Al Feather began the project last year when Rotary International challenged local clubs to do something to make dreams real for kids. He visited the school on a hot spring day when children were hiding under the playground equipment for shade. Learning that one out of six adults develop skin cancer from sun exposure as a child, the gazebo idea was born. A total of 234 volunteer hours from several contractors and organizations created the two sided gazebo that offers shade, seating and an outdoor classroom. Sun safety tips are also posted on the walls and information was given out last Friday during a ribbon cutting. Playing after school Wednesday are Lord Clinton Casey, Gabe Robinson, Michael Cilley, Jacob Hatch and Thomas Marshall.
