Board: Sabattus Selectmen
Met: Tuesday night

No light 'til spring
Issue: The intersection of Routes 126 and 132 is slated for a traffic light that had been thought to arrive soon.
The scoop: Selectmen learned that in March 2010 the Department of Transportation plans to put the project out to bid - meaning no light until at least spring.

Issue: At 7 p.m. on Oct. 13 in the town office, selectmen will have a workshop about the search for a new town manager. Gregory Gill left the post last month. Former Lewiston City Administrator Jim Bennett is serving as interim town manager.

Issue: The town office will hold a Toys for Tots toy drive and a Loaves & Fishes food drive from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day, Nov. 3. The food pantry food drive is for one day only; the toy drive runs until early December.

Issue: The transfer station is celebrating national Recycling Week on Nov. 14 with free doughnuts and coffee at the station.

Say what?
Issue: The town installed glass shields in front of three customer service counters in response to concerns about germs and the H1N1 flu. It only left a gap at the bottom to pass papers through.

The scoop: Employees had trouble hearing customers. Holes couldn't be drilled in the glass because it might shatter. Panels came down Tuesday.

Up next: The glass is in storage in case it's needed in the future.

Budget-minded?
Issue: The Budget Committee has four upcoming vacancies, two for elected positions and two for appointed positions.
The scoop: No one put their name in to run for the elected positions next month and it's too late to get on the printed ballot.
Up next: The town is looking for interested residents to come forward, either for a write-in vote or post-election appointment.

The Town of Sabattus has a keeper in Jim Bennett. Lewiston's loss is their gain. Too bad the council didn't know this.
