Education Commissioner Susan Gendron asked for the analysis. Gendron has said the law will have no impact on curriculum decisions. But the campaign supporting repeal of the law in a Nov. 3 referendum says it could lead to gay marriage being taught in schools.
In her request to Attorney General Janet Mills, Gendron says questions about the impact of gay marriage on school teachings have persisted and are now being directed to superintendents.
Education Department spokesman David Connerty-Marin told the Bangor Daily News that Gendron is asking for the legal analysis so the issue can be put to rest.

verified This is getting ridiculous. What children will learn in school about homosexuality and marriage cannot be determined by looking at the curriculum, and it cannot be determined by looking at the laws. Janet Mills doesn't know any more about it than anyone else, and she certainly cannot "set the issue to rest." It's a language issue, and children learn language from all the people they associate with, including school teachers. If "marriage" in legalese comes to mean something different from what it has always meant in English, teachers who have bought into the propaganda will feel free to say that a man can "marry" another man, or a woman another woman. They might hesitate to say this if the "gay marriage" law is defeated. And yes, if it is not defeated, I think we will see a great increase in home schooling and private schools.
Of course same-sex marriage won't have any impact on the curriculum. What do you expect them to say? At least not until somebody becomes offended and sues.
WOMEN OK BUT MEN NO WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ITS JUST FILTH WITH MEN ,GROSS...AND I AM A WOMEN.
People who don't think it will get into the public schools need to look at MA. That state is totally lost to the gay agenda in every shape and form. Just check out MassResistance to see how bad it can get when this issue is pushed upon parents and good people.
Sammie makes some good points; in fact you can look up the same info on the APA journals.
Those who need to check statistics can look up the links themselves. That is what google is for.
And there is a ton of information on the negative effects of homosexual behavior (meaning those who actually have homosexual sex) on the AFA sites.
I will vote against gay marriage and if it gets into the schools, there will be more parents homeschooling. Many in this state already homeschool because of the downgrade of public school curriculum over the years. Too many listen to outside extremists and not the parents.
Consequences of homosexuality are devastatingly apparent. According to the Omega Journal of Death and Dying, the median age of death for homosexual men is between 40 and 43. The median age of death for heterosexuals is between 74 and 80. In 2003, the Centers for Disease Control noted that homosexuals accounted for nearly 65 percent of all new HIV cases although they make up only 2-3 percent of the entire population, and that cases of Syphilis, Gonorrhea, Hepatitis A and B, Lymphogranuloma Venereum, and virtually every other sexually transmitted disease disproportionately affected the homosexual community.
Psychologically, the effects of homosexuality on an individual are just as deplorable. According to the well-respected Archives of General Psychiatry in 1999, "homosexual people are at substantially higher risk for some forms of emotional problems, including suicid(e), major depression, anxiety disorder, conduct disorder, and nicotine dependence." Further, Dr. N.E. Whitehead from the National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuals stated, "Studies show homosexuals have a substantially greater risk of suffering from psychiatric problems than do heterosexuals. We see higher rates of suicide, depression, bulimia, antisocial personality disorder, and substance abuse." And contrary to the misconceptions advanced by the homosexual lobby, these psychological problems are rarely associated with a stigma they endure from society.
If you were serious about substantiating what you're claiming, you would give us the information we need to check your sources, such as the volume number and page number of the article from the Omega Journal. With that said, I have found an abstract for one such article and it suggests the methodology used in this "study" does not permit the sweeping generalization you make (that the median age for gay men is much lower than that for heterosexuals). According to the abstract (which can be viewed here: http://www.eric.ed.gov/ERICWebPortal/custom/portlets/recordDetails/detai...), this "study's" data source was obituaries "from U.S. homosexual journals [sic] and conventional newspapers." It is highly doubtful that the sub-population of gays whose deaths are publicized in these ways are representative of gays in general. For one, these individuals' sexual orientation would have to have been public information for them to be included in this kind of sampling. Given that norms against publicly revealing one's sexual orientation have only relaxed in recent years in many parts of the country, it would stand to reason that the gays who had reached old age and died would have probably been more likely to have died as closeted gays. They would not make it into this sample. This is an example of the kind of error of interpretation that one can easily make when one lets one's emotions and ideology blind one to the shortcomings of a given data set. This example impeaches the judgment of "Sammie," whom everyone here would do well to ignore.
The idea that homosexuality is in itself harmful to gays and lesbians is an old canard--a lie. The American Psychiatric Association and American Psychological Association long ago came to their senses and rejected that notion in 1973 and 1975, respectively (http://www.apahelpcenter.org/articles/article.php?id=31). It's high time others came to their senses (and at least began thinking in 20th century terms) as well. Let's leave medieval attitudes to the Taliban.
Unsubstantiated "facts" mean nothing, except to perpetuate your ignorance. I feel sorry for you, you are so misguided.
I hope you don't work in the health and social services sector.
Yes, I wonder if they will teach the statistically proven, devastating effects of the gay lifestyle. All related diseases increase exponentially: hepatitis A, B, & C, STDs, AIDS/HIV, anal cancer, mental illnesses, etc.
All lies.
